FTTH-Service verify – Strategy
Plug it into the wall, stick the line ID on the housing, and you're ready to go. This is everyday life in German households when a fiber optic connection is installed. Is that enough, or would a few more steps be the solution for lower operating and support costs in the long term?
How can it be improved? And what are the benefits for technicians and providers?
During initial installation, the fiber optic cable is usually already connected to the OLT at the PoP. This means that a service is already in operation or the signals are being transmitted by the splitter with or without the correct PON ID.
The measurements taken during initial commissioning provide a basis for subsequent support. Without measurements, every support call starts from scratch. Which values need to be measured?
a. The signal level (important for replacing/operating ONTs)
b. The PON ID – is the customer connected to the right line?
c. Speed test – is the customer receiving the ordered service or has the correct service been activated?
Without these measurements, a DOA (dead-on-arrival) error may occur. Even if the ONT indicates that it is ready for operation via the LED, no service can be delivered.
Individual configurations possible
The Argus F240 can be used for all three tests. The new tile-style favorites interface can be used to directly access this test structure. Each tile leads directly to the appropriate submenu.
